COVID-19 Health Mandate: Elective Procedures Restrictions


On March 19, 2020 Governor Dunleavy issued Health Mandate 005: Elective Medical Procedures requiring all non-urgent and elective procedures to be postponed for three months. If you are affected by this mandate and have questions or concerns, contact your dental provider to discuss your options.


COVID-19 Health Mandate: Oral Health Restrictions


March 19, 2020 Governor Dunleavy issued Health Mandate 006: Elective Oral Health Procedures, in concurrence with recommendations from the American Dental Association, requiring all non-urgent dental procedures to be postponed for one month. COVID-19 Advisory: Postponement of Non-Urgent and Elective Procedures

The Division of Public Health issued an advisory requesting that all hospitals and surgical facilities in Alaska to postpone non-urgent and elective procedures for three months. Please check back for more information.


Travel Restrictions for Non-Urgent and Elective Services


The Alaska Medicaid program is limiting Medicaid travel to only those services that cannot be postponed for 3 months (e.g., facility discharges, emergency ambulance transports, acute psychiatric events, urgent surgery). This decision follows the Alaska State Chief Medical Officer’s advisory requesting that providers postpone non-urgent and elective services. Please contact your medical provider if you have any questions or concerns.


Aetna Offers Referral Service for Non-Members

March 18, 2020 – Aetna has graciously extended its Resources for Living program to non-Aetna members during the COVID-19 outbreak, similar to what they provided during the earthquake. Anyone can call Aetna to speak with a consultant who can assist with referrals to local resources.

To access this service, call 888.327.2386 if you are not an Aetna beneficiary; if you are currently an Aetna member, call the telephone number on the back of your card.

IRS 1095-B Form Available Upon Request


The IRS Form 1095-B contains health coverage information for the covered individual and serves as proof of qualifying health insurance through Alaska Medical Assistance during some or all of the previous calendar year. Because you are not required to submit a 1095-B form with your tax return, the form 1095-B will be sent to Alaska Medicaid recipients only upon request. Adult Enhanced Dental Program Reinstated Effective December 31, 2019


On December 13, 2019, the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services issued a press release announcing the reinstatement of  the Alaska Medicaid adult preventive dental program (also known as the Adult Enhanced Dental Program) effective December 31, 2019. Letters containing more details will be mailed to Medicaid members next week.

Alaska Medicaid Introduces Well-Child Transportation Bus Pass Program


The Department of Health and Social Services and the Municipality of Anchorage are excited to introduce the new Well-Child Transportation Bus Pass Program. Beginning February 1, 2020, free People Mover bus passes will be issued to Medicaid/Denali KidCare-eligible children and pregnant women through the Municipality of Anchorage’s mTicket application. MedExpert Services No Longer Available


The Division of Heath Care Services would like to notify Medicaid recipients that Explanation of Medical Benefits (EOMB) and telephone based case management services provided by MedExpert International are no longer available. If you have questions regarding the services you previously received through MedExpert please call Zayda Cooper at 907.269.7383 or Jason Ball at 907.334.2186.
